A digital nomad's guide to staying connected and productive with AI

Affordable living, great tacos, beaches that double as offices — Mexico has a lot going for it. But none of that matters if your video call drops mid-meeting. The good news is that getting online here is easy, with over 110 million internet users in Mexico and infrastructure that keeps improving. Fiber for your home base, an eSIM for when you’re on the move, and you’re set. Add a few AI tools to the mix, and that beach bar becomes your most productive office yet.

Choose the right option for your work situation

As a digital nomad, a stable internet connection is essential. Mexico offers multiple internet options: cable internet for travelers with a home base, and mobile data packages for those who go from place to place.

Fiber internet: the best option for a fixed base

Settling down in Mexico for a while? Then Fiber internet is your best friend. Providers like Totalplay offer speeds of up to 10,000 Mbps. That’s fast enough to download an ultra HD movie before your coffee gets cold.

Most nomads do just fine with 500 to 1,000 Mbps. That’s plenty for video calls, big file uploads, and streaming after hours. Totalplay and Telmex both have solid packages in that range, so check what’s available at your address and pick whatever fits.

Mobile internet: the solution for digital nomads on the go

If you’re using your freedom as a digital nomad to explore the country, high-speed fiber internet isn’t an option. Neither is downloading 5.3 movies per minute. Instead, look for a local mobile data plan to get the internet  in Mexico and upload as many pictures of your beach bar “office” as you want.

• Local SIM packages: Staying for a few months? A local SIM from providers like AT&T or Telcel might be your best choice. Just keep in mind that these plans often come with a minimum term of 12 to 24 months.
• Travel eSIM: Only visiting for a few weeks or hopping between countries? A travel eSIM is the easier option. No contracts, no minimum term, and you can set it up before you even land. Providers like Saily offer unlimited data plans for Mexico, so you can get online the moment you arrive.

Boost your productivity with AI tools

Once your connection is sorted, there’s only one thing left to fix: your productivity. Working alone sounds great until you realize nobody’s stopping you from a third coffee break. These AI tools keep you on track when your coworkers can’t. And if you want more options, PoweredbyAI lists over 25,000 of them.

Background noise? There’s a tool for that

Recording a voice-over as a digital nomad is tricky. Your favorite cafe? Too loud. That beach bar at Zenzi Beach? The lounge music will end up in your video. And recording in your rental works until the neighbor starts drilling. That’s where AI tools like Denoisr are useful. They remove background noise from your recordings and turn your regular headphone mic into something that sounds like a studio setup — it picks up your voice and nothing else. Technically, you could record anywhere.

Adopt an office puppy that actually promotes teamwork

Can’t take a dog with you while traveling? Make Dash the official dog of your office instead. This AI teammate lives in your Slack or Microsoft Teams and helps remote teams stay organized across time zones.

• It connects to more than 3,000 tools and applications
• ISO/IEC 27001 certified for secure team workflows
• Priced per workspace, so even small teams can afford it

Keep your documents safe with PDFized

Working from a cafe like Blend Station means sharing public Wi-Fi with dozens of strangers. Sending contracts or client documents over that connection is a risk most nomads don’t think about until it’s too late. PDFized handles the other side of the problem: it spots and redacts sensitive information in your PDFs automatically, catching details you’d easily miss doing by hand.

Ready to work?

Mexico has it all: affordable living, great food, and an internet that actually works. Sort out your connection: fiber at home or a Daily eSIM when you’re on the move. Then grab a few AI tools, and any cafe, beach bar, or coworking space becomes your office.
